EMPOWERING LATINA YOUTH
Meet the Artists and Leaders!
Founder of Casa Palomi, Ella Rises and Mother
Hi I'm Nadia and am so excited to work with so many amazing people to help bring you Ella Rises. I was born in Tijuana Mexico and grew up in southern California. I later moved to Utah for college and have stayed--for the most part! We spent a few years living in Mexico City as a family. While there the idea of Ella Rises was born. I connected deeply with my heritage and saw it in a different light from when I was growing up in the US. My roots empower me and motivate me and I hope yours will do the same for you!
Evelyn is a Mexican-American illustrator currently living in the heart of downtown Salt Lake City. While maintaining a professional focus on fashion illustration, her multi-disciplinary skill set has led her to enjoy side projects involving soft textiles, graphic design, floral arrangement, dance performance, music, and set production.
Her soft watercolors and expressive lines seek to highlight the colorful movements within fashion, pop culture, beauty and everyday life. Her work has garnered the attention of local brands and publications as well as select international projects. Her artistic presence in the community has also led to drawing live at events with clients such as Nordstrom, Utah Fashion Week, and other conventions.
Artist, doula, taco enthusiast, and Costa Rican!
Hi, it's so nice to meet you! In addition to being a doula and artist I'm also the mother of dragons… kidding. I'm a mother to two boys and they’re just as unpredictable as dragons. I love teaching empowering creative workshops throughout Utah and run the Utah Mobile Art Studio.
My family is originally from Costa Rica, but I was born in Montreal and raised in the exotic lands of Utah. I’m a gal with a big heart and an even bigger taco & chocolate obsession - seriously, it’s embarrassing.
Born in Chihuahua, Mexico. Elizabeth graduated from Brigham Young University, where she earned a BFA in painting. She now lives in Spanish Fork, Utah with her husband and three kids. Her repertoire consists of Portraiture and Figurative works.
“My goal is to inspire feelings of compassion and kindness towards ourselves and others. I considered my art a dialogue between the unconscious and the customary mind, embodied in the new spaces and old places that knew me. I want my art to speak of the conventional days from a poetical and sacred view that emanates from a place where love and irony are intimately entwined and at peace.”
Entrepreneur and Owner of Skin Boss
Hi, I’m Lisa Richards, founder and owner of Skin Boss LLC. I operate the SkinBoss SkinSpa in Provo, where I mentor a group of estheticians and carry out skin consulting and spa services, as well as run an online store retailing skincare.
I grew up in Pleasant Grove, attended BYU for a couple years, then switched gears to Esthetician school and have been working in that area since 2002. I have always loved educating clients on a deeper understanding of skincare, and also love the entrepreneurial part of owning a business, with all the ability to create, test and try new ways of working in this industry, and connecting with those we work with.
World Traveler, Activist, Mother, Wife and University Admissions Counselor
My name is Maybelline Alvarez McCoy and I have set an intention to boldly tap into self, align, and imperfectly create and share the abundance that I witness on this sacred journey of ours with the world. the love of my life, Marcus. Among other things, we sold all that we owned and set out in search of community world wide, six different continents, within two years, with three little ones in tow.
Orem Jr. High School Principal
Belinda was born in Provo Utah but her story begins well before that when her grandparents immigrated to Provo Utah in 1962. Her mother was 13 years old and the family came to Utah to run El Azteca--the first Mexican restaurant in Utah County. This is an important part of Belinda’s story because she grew up at the side of her parents and grandparents in the restaurant. Here she learned the importance of doing your best work, having integrity and serving others.
She received an Associates Degree from UVSC (now UVU) in 2004, and a Bachelor’s Degree from BYU in Education with an emphasis on Spanish Teaching and Teaching English as a Second Language. Belinda has also earned a Masters Degree in Educational Leadership and is currently pursuing an Educational Doctorate Degree. Among other things, Belinda was the assistant principal at Mountain View until May 2019. Belinda’s next chapter took her to Orem Jr. High where she is the first Latina secondary principal in Alpine School District.
